APA 2022

Brilliant talk happening at #APA2022 right now by U.S. Surgeon General Vice Admiral Dr. Vivek H. Murthy about a social and cultural shift for greater mental health. Shifting from a “society centered around work to a society that centers around people.”

Some concerning stats given by Dr. Murthy:

-11 is the number of YEARS between a child feelings something and getting treatment.

-Between 2007 and 2018, suicide rates among youth ages 10-24 in the U.S. increased by 57%, early estimates show more than 6,600 suicide deaths - among this age group in 2020.

-36% increase to 44% of students that report as depressed.

The antidote? More togetherness, more collective centered focus and achievements, and a more compassionate and people centered society. Something Dr. Murthy noted has been described in Scriptures and faith-based institutions for centuries. Values that are important around the world and need to be championed more strongly in day to day function.

Mental health is about community not money, power, or fame.
